A Workplace-Based Assessment (WPBA) Working Group has been established. Its first meeting was held in March 2006. The group’s primary aim is to design, develop, pilot and implement workplace-based assessment procedures for pathology trainees. This work is necessary to fulfil PMETB’s standards and requirements in the specialties (chemical pathology, histopathology, medical microbiology and virology) whose training falls within the remit of the Joint Committee on Pathology Training (JCPT). However, assessments developed for these specialties may well be appropriate for others, for example those under the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB).
