How do I find what I want on the website?

Sorry if you can't find what you're looking for. For general queries about the site, or for problems accessing pages or documents, please contact our Webmaster (details above). You may also find our Sitemap helpful.

For specific queries for departments or individuals, please go to our Department directory or the more detailed Staff/subject directory.

If you're still not sure who to contact, call our switchboard on 020 451 6700 or email info@rcpath.org, who can direct your query to the best person.

We welcome your comments so we can continue to improve the site.

Downloading and reading PDF files

Many of the documents on our website are PDF files. In order to read PDFs, you will need latest Version of Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer. To download Reader for free, please click on the following link:

To download the file on to your own PC for future reference, right-click on the file once and select 'Save Target As (or 'Save Link As' in Netscape), then save the file in a useful place such as your Desktop. To view the document within your browser, left-click the file.

New Department of Health (DH) web addresses www.dh.gov.uk/Home/fs/en

The DH has updated its website and changed all their URLs. There is no redirect facility provided. All the old DH URLs default to the new homepage. If you come across an old URL, use the 'Advanced Search' function on the new DH site and select the 'With the exact phrase' option. This will work in most cases. However it appears that some previous electronic documents have not been placed on the new site; only a reference to the document is given. The King's Fund Information & Library Service has notified us of another option. Most of the documents are still visible at their old URLs on the Public Record Office Web Archive of the old DH site. This resource is provided via the non-profit organisation 'The Internet Archive'.

To access archived DH documents via the PRO Web site, prefix the existing URL with the following: http://crawl04.archive.org/ukgov/200307-*/
So, for example, the old NHS Plan URL http://www.doh.gov.uk/nhsplan/nhsplan.pdf becomes http://crawl04.archive.org/ukgov/200307-*/http://www.doh.gov.uk/nhsplan/nhsp lan.pdf

You then get to an interim page, on which you need to click on the latest date in the list to see the last version of the document that has been archived. You can also see earlier versions if you need and there is a facility for you to compare versions if you want.

Website updates - what to do if changes don't seem to be visible

When new information is released, it is immediately put onto the website. However, calls are often received complaining that users cannot see those changes that have been made to the website. This can be especially problematic regarding examination results. The reason for this is probably because most desktop PCs cache (store) recently accessed webpages locally on your hard drive, so that the pages can load more quickly if a website is revisited. If the local cache is not refreshed or is not working properly, you may view 'old' information. An efficient cache should update as and when websites are updated if users try to access them, but not all proxy servers or local caches" run efficiently. Consequently, users accessing a website may view outdated information. The company that supports our website has developed code to try to eliminate the caching problem (i.e. to prevent the data from being stored in a cache), but some ISPs and Local Area Network Administrators deliberately override this.

If you are unable to view the latest information (examination results or any other information) on a site, you need to do the following:
1. Press the 'Refresh' button within your Internet Browser (IE or Netscape).
2. Talk to your own IT department about their proxy server.
3. Talk to your own ISP about their proxy server.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to the College website and would be grateful for your feedback and ideas on making the site better.
