Most of the work of the College is achieved through sub-committees of Council. Each meeting twice a year, Council sub-committees fall into two groups, namely Standing Committees and Specialty Advisory Committees (SACs).
The Standing Committees usually deal with generic matters crossing all pathology specialties, while the SACs (along with their relevant sub-committees) advise on specialty-specific matters such as histopathology and microbiology, etc.
Chairs and members of all Committees are appointed for three years and it is usual for the Chair to be drawn from Council. Apart from the committee members appointed from Council, relevant kindred societies are invited to nominate representatives to serve. It is also usual to have a trainee representative.
In addition there are Joint and Intercollegiate Committees that deal with overlapping interests with other Royal Colleges and associations.
Anyone wishing to make enquiries regarding any area of pathology should contact the Press and Communications Manager, Samantha Jayaram on 020 7451 6752 or on email at samantha.jayaram@rcpath.org
