The Professional Standards Unit aims to provide guidance for pathologists to enable them to carry out high quality clinical audit.
Clinical audit is a systematic process, each audit cycle involves defining standards, collecting data to measure current practice against those standards, and implementing any necessary changes to improve practice. Undertaking a re-audit, after changes have been made, aims to show the impact of changes and completes the audit cycle.THE AUDIT CYCLE
Criteria and standards for clinical audit have been set by the College. An evaluation scheme is available online for those wishing to submit their audit reports for evaluation against the standards. If a completed audit is positively evaluated, a certificate is awarded to all participants for inclusion in portfolios. The evaluation system is also available for first time audits and can provide constructive advice. We provide a question and answer section for individuals wishing to plan a high quality clinical audit.
