GIRFT has appointed College Fellows Simon Knowles, Tom Lewis, Martin Myers and Marion Wood to lead the national review of pathology services.

Professor Jo Martin, President of the Royal College of Pathologists, said:

“The GIRFT programme is all about improving the quality of patient care and I am delighted by the appointment of such experienced pathologists by the GIRFT programme.

“The appointments have been endorsed by the College and, between them, these pathologists represent a diverse range of specialties – histopathology, microbiology, clinical biochemistry and haematology. These colleagues have in-depth knowledge of leading multidisciplinary laboratories and their clinical expertise will be invaluable in directing this work. We are meeting the leads to help prioritise areas and supporting them by publicising the work and gathering member suggestions about great practice and potential spread of best practice.”

By tackling variations in the way services are delivered across the NHS and sharing best practice between trusts, GIRFT identifies changes to services that improve the care and treatment of patients. Crucially, GIRFT is led by clinicians who are experts in the areas they are reviewing.
