Annual liver course run by the UK Liver Pathology Group
This year our two annual courses will be linked to provide a two-day course of lectures and practical experience in liver pathology.
Delegates have the option of attending either or both of the days.
Registration has not yet opened, but if you would like to express your interest and be informed when booking opens, please email us.
Day 1 – Liver biopsy in the assessment of medical liver disease'
This course, organised by Prof. Stefan Hübscher, will be delivered for the ninth time on April 4th 2019.
Presentations by hepatologists and histopathologists cover the investigation of medical liver diseases.
The course provides a practical diagnostic approach to reporting medical liver biopsies, focusing on the importance of clinico-pathological correlation in assessing common patterns of liver damage.
The programme can be viewed here. The histology for cases presented in the afternoon can be pre-viewed via the on line digital slides – most delegates have done this and found it useful.
Day 2 – Histopathology Workshop on Liver Pathology
A practical slide based course which develops the experience of day 1 and also includes sessions on liver tumour pathology. This year the individual slide viewing will be using iPads – delegates may bring their own, or pre-book a hired iPad for the day. Again, the slides will be available on line before the meeting.
This will be the first time that we have used iPads rather than microscopes, based on the good experience with this format at the London Deanery teaching. This makes for a more interactive discussion, and the presenters will be available between the formal presentations to discuss cases with groups of delegates.
Day 1 is designed for senior trainees in histopathology and hepatology, and for consultant histopathologists and gastroenterologists who are regularly involved in liver biopsy assessment (without necessarily working in a Liver Unit).
Day 2 is for histopathologists – senior trainees and consultants who want a day of practical CPD in diagnostic liver pathology.
Both days are hosted by the Royal College of Pathologists; this will be one of the first meetings in their new building at 6 Alie Street, London E1 8QT.
