The College is launching the RCPath “Patient Safety at Work” competition as part of a programme to raise awareness of the vital role pathology plays in supporting patient safety during World Patient Safety Day on 17 September 2021.

This year’s theme is maternal and newborn care. The essay should be based on a description of a patient safety incident related to maternal and/or neonatal care.

In line with Safety II approaches, the incident could describe normal, everyday, routine performance; exceptionally good performance or sub-optimal performance including near-misses, accidents and disasters. Please note that any work must be previously unpublished.

The Patient Safety Evaluation panel will act as the judges of the evaluation process.
