Honorary Librarian and Archivist
The library comprises around 2,800 books which are housed on the ground floor of the College’s premises at 6 Alie Street, London. This space is available for members and trainees to visit and is also used as event space by the College to generate external revenue.

Your expertise and enthusiasm would help ensure that the College’s library and archive collections remain accessible, relevant and well cared for.
The role offers the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the profession; safeguarding historically significant collections, supporting engagement with pathology’s heritage, and helping to connect current and future generations of pathologists with the history of their specialty. Through strategic oversight, advocacy and promotion of the collections, you would help strengthen the College’s mission to advance excellence in pathology while preserving the legacy of those who have shaped the profession.
What does the role entail?
- The role is based out of the College’s premises at 6 Alie Street, London.
- Provide oversight of the College’s library and heritage collections, helping to ensure their preservation, accessibility and continued relevance to members and trainees.
- Advise on the development and care of the collections.
- Respond to occasional enquiries, and support wider engagement with the history and practice of pathology.

The Honorary Librarian and Archivist may be invited to provide periodic updates to the trustee board or relevant College committees.
What’s the commitment?
It is estimated that the role will require approximately 1 day per month (10–15 days per annum), based out of the College's London premises.
The duration of the role is 3 years from date of appointment, with the option of renewing for up to a further 2 years by mutual agreement with the trustee board.
Who should apply?
Fellows of the College are invited to apply. Applicants should have an interest in the history of pathology, preservation of professional heritage, and be comfortable using digital systems and databases. Applicants should be familiar with bibliographical, cataloguing or archival conventions, or have a willingness to develop this knowledge, and an interest in promoting engagement with the College’s collections and heritage.
