Our annual report 2019–2020 showcases the important projects and initiatives the College has supported over the past year.

We are delighted to launch the 2019–2020 annual report.

The 2019−2020 annual report is an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the College and our members over the past year. This year has provided a great number of challenges, but we have continued to deliver on our commitments and fostered new ways of working.

In this annual report you can read about how we have supported our members during the COVID-19 pandemic and we highlight the extraordinary efforts and achievements of the pathology community in our clinical case studies.

We have case studies from a range of specialties, including virology, immunology and clinical biochemistry. Although the case studies focus on different areas of the response to COVID-19, the common theme that runs through all of them is teamwork. They are a true testament to the progress that can be achieved through collaboration.

It is also fascinating to read first-hand accounts from people who have had COVID-19 and been involved in the search for effective therapies.

We have made considerable progress over the past year in our four strategic objectives and some of our activities in these areas are highlighted in the report. These include:

  • supporting our members during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • improving our digital services to members
  • advocating for improved services and sustainable workforce
  • strengthening the framework for better patient safety and care
  • promoting pathology and engaging with the public at a range of events across the UK
  • partnering on important international projects.

The report provides a fantastic summary of the College’s activities but there has been so much more. Our work will continue across 2020–2021.
