Without the right test, at the right time, with the right answer, safe and effective patient care cannot be delivered.

Commenting on the Health and Social Care Committee’s reports 'Workforce: recruitment, training and retention in health and social care' and the Expert Panel: evaluation of Government’s commitments in the area of the health and social care workforce in England, Professor Mike Osborn, President of The Royal College of Pathologists said:

`95% of patients will have a pathologist involved in their healthcare. Without the right diagnosis patients cannot receive the correct treatment.

Pathology services underpin the NHS. The Royal College of Pathologists has repeatedly called for real action from Government to address potentially catastrophic workforce issues to ensure patients receive the best care, and that harm is prevented.’
