The government closes an initiative to tackle antimicrobial resistance

The College is concerned to see the closure of the Fleming Fund, a programme that gathers and shares data on antimicrobial resitance across countries in Africa and Asia amid rising resistant infections. The Fleming Fund has had great success in building laboratory capacity and enabling data sharing across low and middle-income countries to track antimicrobial resistance and take actions to address it.

The UK's commitment as a leader in global health is at risk with this cut and the College urges the government to set out how it will continue to galvanise international action on the issue, as described in its strategy to combat AMR, to ensure the gains the programme has made are not lost.
