Commenting on the ransomware cyber attack affecting pathology services at Guy’s and St Thomas’, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts and primary care services in south-east London, a spokesperson for the Royal College of Pathologists said:

‘Pathology is at the heart of diagnosis and vital to guiding treatment for patients. A significant cyber attack such as the one affecting pathology services at Guy’s and St Thomas’, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts, will have a major effect on the day to day running of the hospital. There are well-rehearsed contingency plans in place, and affected patients should follow advice issued by local NHS providers. Emergency care continues to be available, so patients should access services in the normal way by dialling 999 in an emergency and otherwise using 111.’
