We were delighted that Dame Chi Onwurah MP visited the Cellular Pathology department at the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust Royal Victoria Infirmary to see first hand the amazing work that pathologists do. The department examines samples from 75,000 patients per year, helping to ensure they receive the right treatment.

Dame Chi Onwurah MP said:

‘It was great to meet the dedicated staff and see the expertise and innovation that make this a nation-leading service.’

Lisa Guthrie, Director of Nursing; Chris Shaw, Deputy Director of Operations Integrated Laboratory Medicine; Sarah-Leigh Nicholson, Laboraotory Manager and Peh Sun Loo, Consultant Pathologist and Head of Department (Cellular Pathology) led the tour.

Dame Chi Onwurah MP is the Labour MP for Newcastle upon Tyne Central and West and Chair of the parliamentary Science, Innovation and Technology Committee in the House of Commons. She has previously attended College events such as a virtual autopsy run by Dr Suzy Lishman at Newcastle Cathedral during the RCPath National Pathology Week in November 2016.
