The event marked the launch of a manifesto aiming to position the NHS as a global leader in digital diagnostics

AXREM, the UK trade association for suppliers of diagnostic medical imaging, Radiotherapy, Healthcare IT, AI, and care equipment, invited the College to provide a speaker for their Digital Pathology Manifesto Launch at the Houses of Parliament on 3 February.

We were delighted that Dr David Bailey, Consultant Histopathologist and Clinical Lead for Cellular Pathology at Northwest Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, joined the event and gave a speech on the College’s work to date on digital pathology, and on his experiences of digital pathology implementation in his own Trust.

AXREM’s Digital Pathology Manifesto is championing the transformation of histopathology services through digital innovation. The document sets out evidence demonstrating measurable impacts of digital pathology adoption and covers challenges and opportunities and sets out its calls to action.

As noted by Dr Bailey in his speech at AXREM’s Westminster event, the College welcomed the opportunity to input to the manifesto and be involved in its launch. He highlighted that many of the points covered in the manifesto have been central to the work of the Digital Committee at the RCPath since its formation over 8 years ago and indirectly led to the formation of the Pathology Portal, the College’s online digital resource that is central to the modernisation of our training curricula.

Dr Bailey also said in his speech that we (the RCPath) ‘very much look forward to working with the sector on providing evidence-based approaches to subjects such as system quality and specifications, digital assessment platforms and comprehensive, interoperable and high-quality image storage.’

The College is grateful to Dr Bailey for representing the RCPath at this event, and to AXREM for the opportunity. Thanks also to Professor Darren Treanor, who provided information for Dr Bailey's speech.
