The Pathology Portal celebrates its four year anniversary.

Created in partnership with the¯NHS England Technology Enhanced Learning team, the Pathology Portal has grown into a valued, free educational platform for the global pathology community. It continues to provide high-quality learning materials, foster collaboration, and support ongoing professional development.

Highlights and achievements from the past 4 years include:

  • Expanding content – The Pathology Portal now hosts 8,000¯resources covering all areas of pathology. This includes a wide range of lectures, case studies, assessments, podcasts and more. Over the four years that the Pathology Portal has been live, the resources have been launched more than half a million times!

  • Exclusive content – The Portal features expert created content not available elsewhere, bringing fresh, in-depth knowledge to support specialist learning by working in collaboration with organisations like the IBMS and UKHSA.

A growing and active community

The Pathology Portal now supports over 8,000 active users and hundreds of contributors. This vibrant community plays a key role in shaping the direction and success of the platform. The Pathology Portal engages with the different committee groups at the College including the Trainees' Advisory Committee (TAC), various Specialty Advisory Committees(SACs) and College Specialty Training Committees (CSTCs) in order to promote the availability of resources, receive feedback and seek support for the creation of resources in areas where support was required. The Pathology Portal was also represented at several external meetings and conferences over the last year including the 2026 British Society of Haematology meeting.

One of the Portal’s standout features continues to be the use of high-resolution whole slide imaging, supporting not only training and revision but also a growing number of External Quality Assessment (EQA) schemes, which have continued to expand significantly on the platform. Alongside this, the Portal is now being widely used to support teaching sessions across the UK and internationally, demonstrating its value as a versatile digital resource.

As the Pathology Portal enters its fourth year, it continues to evolve. The Learning Hub has published a new development pathway outlining future plans for the platform. The Pathology Portal team will be working closely with these developments to enhance both user and editor experiences in the coming phases.

We would like to thank our fantastic team of editors who continue to expand and review existing content, as well as our users who continue to provide valuable feedback to help improve both the Pathology Portal but also the wider Learning Hub.

`I'm so proud of what we have built in the Pathology Portal. It is thanks to all our amazing editors and contributors for creating this fantastic resource for all those who love or want to learn about pathology.'
