The British Infection Association and The Intensive Care Society have issued a joint position statement supporting the use of beta lactam antibiotics in the treatment of severe infections

The British Infection Association and The Intensive Care Society today issued a joint position statement supporting the use of continous infusion for piperacillin/tazovactam and meropenem within critical care settings in the UK. Evidence from the BLING III and 16 other trials have demonstrated increased survival at 90 days using continous infusion.

By setting out the main principles required to implement continuous infusion within critical care units, this position statement will no doubt be of interest to and extremely useful for our infection specialists.
