We were delighted to be joined by local politicians for our Wellbeing Walk on Saturday 19th September. The following Welsh politicians took part in the walk from Castell Coch to Cardiff Castle along the beautiful River Taff:

• Dafydd Trystan Davies, Senedd Constituency Member, Plaid Cymru, Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf and Cabinet Minister for Government Effectiveness and the Constitution
• Sarah Cooper-Lesadd, Senedd Constituency Member, Plaid Cymru, Pen-y-bont Bro Morgannwg
• Lyn Ackerman, Senedd Constituency Member, Plaid Cymru, Casnewydd Islwyn
• Councillor Norma Mackie, Cabinet Member for Social Services (Adult Services and Public Health), Welsh Labour 

It was the perfect opportunity to speak to pathologists and NHS staff from all disciplines, learning about what members do. The route was around 10km and ended in Bute Park.

Dr Emma Short, Chair, Wales Regional Council, said:

“ We were really pleased to be joined by Welsh politicians on this beautiful walk and to see their interest in the importance of pathologists in healthcare. 

Increased investment is urgently needed in pathology services, particularly in the recruitment and training of pathologists and scientists. More funded training places are needed across all pathology disciplines to alleviate delays in diagnosis and to support cancer screening initiatives such as lung, breast and colon cancers.

The Welsh Government must ensure the implementation of digital pathology so staff can work more efficiently and flexibly and to prepare the ground to benefit from the role artificial intelligence (AI) can play in diagnosis.”
