Autopsy webinar series – Cervical spine injury

  • Dr Kevin Kinch

    SPEAKER

    Dr Kinch is a Consultant Neuropathologist and Ophthalmic Pathologist at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. He has a broad diagnostic practice encompassing adult and paediatric surgical neuropathology, ophthalmic pathology, and muscle and nerve pathology. In addition, he is a recognised specialist in forensic neuropathology.

  • Dr Leighanne Deboys

    SPEAKER

    Dr Deboys is a Consultant Forensic Pathologist at the Department of Forensic Medicine and Science at Glasgow University. In this role, under the authority and instruction of the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service she performs post mortem examinations into around 350 deaths per annum, to include sudden unexpected natural events, suicides, homicides and accidents, as well as deaths resulting from complications of medical and surgical procedures. She is also a Council Member of the Scottish Medico-Legal Society, as well as being a member of the British Association in Forensic Medicine (BAFM).

  • Professor Marta Cohen

    Chair

    Professor Marta C Cohen is a paediatric and perinatal consultant histopathologist and Clinical Director of Pharmacy, Diagnostics and Genetics (2019–2024)  at Sheffield Children NHS Foundation Trust. Since 2018, she has been an Honorary Professor at the University of Sheffield. In 2020, she was awarded the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).

    Marta trained at La Plata National University (Faculty of Medicine) in Argentina, and undertook her training in Histopathology at the Clínicas University Hospital and the Ricardo Gutierrez Children’s Hospital in Buenos Aires, and at Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa.

    Marta joined the NHS 20 years ago and, since then, has held various roles, including: Course Director of the Post-graduate course of the International Paediatric Pathology Association (2014–2018), President of the International Paediatric Pathology Association (2016–2018), Chair and Programme Director of Advanced Training Centre for Paediatric and Perinatal Pathology of European Society of Pathology (2015–), Council Member of the European Society of Pathology (2022–2024) and Academic Lead for Paediatric and Perinatal Pathology, Royal College of Pathologists (2018–). Currently, Marta is a Board Member of the following organisations: International Collaboration on Cancer Reporting (ICCR; 2019–), International Society for Study and Prevention of Perinatal and Infant Death (2016–2020, re-elected for 2020–2024), International Stillbirth Alliance (2022–2025), Scientific Advisory Group of the Lullaby Trust (2022–), Academic Advisory Board, Academy of Forensic Sciences (2021–) and Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) Foundation UK. Marta is part of the Expert Advisory Board and Executive Committee of the Estudy Group in Forensic Microbiology, European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) (2018–2024).
