David Turner has a PhD in Transplant Immunology from the University of Manchester and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, specialising in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics. Dr Turner started working in the field in 1992 as a Trainee Clinical Scientist in Manchester and has subsequently worked in various UK laboratories supporting both solid organ transplant and HSCT programmes. Since 2008 he has been a Consultant Clinical Scientist for H&I within the Scottish Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS), based in Edinburgh. In this role he oversees the routine testing provided by the laboratory and advises the local transplant unit on transplant risk relating to HLA incompatibilities. Dr Turner is also involved in education and training, chairing the European Board for Transplant Immunology, a body within the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes (UEMS), that provides qualifications for scientists and clinicians working in clinical laboratories supporting transplantation.

Alison Logan is a Principal Clinical Scientist with 30 years of experience in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I) at Manchester Transplantation Laboratory. She leads the Graft Information and Advisory Service providing specialist advice on HPCT donor selection. She also leads the HLA typing team and is involved in the evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies.

Alison is the current chair of the UK BSHI Cord Blood Unit Specialist Advisory Panel. She is a member of the BSHI training and Development Executive, and she contributes to national training and assessment through BSHI and the National School of Healthcare Science.

She has publications and conference presentations in H&I and has contributed to the recently submitted UK Cord Blood Guidelines.

Helena is currently the Deputy Director of the Manchester Transplantation Laboratory, where she has worked since 1999.  Helena has 28 years of experience in chimerism monitoring, and a particular interest in emerging molecular technologies.  She is a member of the NEQAS L&I SAC and has an input into the chimerism post-transplant monitoring scheme.

Helena is a member of several professional bodies including UK NEQAS Histocompatibility &Immunogenetics (Chair), British Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (Chair Elect) and NEQAS L&I SAC.  She regularly contributes to national professional working groups on molecular assays and has a number of publications including being one of the co-authors on the 2015 chimerism guidelines.
