This event for National Pathology Week provides an opportunity for NHS staff and members of the public to understand the roles of the different Pathology services within healthcare and their impact on the patient’s experience.

During the event there will be lots of different ways that healthcare staff and members of the public can take part. Information boards and informative materials such as leaflets will be available as well as members of staff from the different pathology disciplines including Blood Sciences, Microbiology and Cellular Pathology. These staff members will be present on the stall throughout the day to explain their role within their department and to spread awareness of the impact of how their work benefits patients. Guest visitors from external companies involved with providing the laboratory testing will be at the event to discuss their company’s role within healthcare and to demonstrate some of the equipment or services that their companies provide. Tours of the different pathology departments will be available to other healthcare staff allowing them the opportunity to see what happens to their patient’s samples and how the different tests provided by each department work. There will also be interactive games and quizzes on the stall that are available for everyone to take part in which provide a fun way to highlight some of the aspects of pathology, with freebies and food also available.

Attendees will gain an insight into the role of each of the different disciplines within the Pathology service, and how important each discipline is for the patient's healthcare experience. It is hoped that attendees will also gain an understanding of the scale of Pathology including an insight into the wide range of tests and services that are provided, as well as the impact that the COVID pandemic had on each discipline and how they were able to maintain the service safely.
