This talk will cover the principles and applications of diagnostic stewardship for a variety of lab disciplines including real world examples of successfully implemented strategies in both hospital and primary care settings.

  • Dr Sara Jenks

    Dr Sara Jenks is a Consultant in Chemical Pathology and Metabolic Medicine based in Edinburgh. She is clinical lead for the biochemistry service in NHS Lothian and chairs the Lothian Primary care Laboratory Interface Group which brings together GPs, lab specialty leads, second care clinicians, lab management and lab IT teams to discuss lab testing related issues, make IT changes and produce guidance. Sara has been involved in multiple projects which have successfully reduced inappropriate requesting as well as others which have increased testing where appropriate. She also has an interest in the communication of critical results and decision support approaches to ensure optimal use of any results being generated.

  • Dr Kate Templeton

    Dr. Kate Templeton is a Consultant Clinical Scientist in Microbiology in Edinburgh and is an honorary Senior lecturer in Medical Microbiology at the University of Edinburgh. Her main focus is on clinically useful molecular diagnostics and molecular epidemiology. She has several European awards for her original contributions in molecular diagnosis. She has previously worked on EU project in Leiden the Netherlands for 5 years.

    She has worked in NHS Lothian since 2005 and Head of Molecular Diagnosis covering infection and molecular pathology.
