Lab Tests Online UK
The webinar will focus on the history, redevelopment and impact of the Lab Tests Online UK (LTO) website. The mission of this non-commercial website has and always will be “to improve the health of patients by increasing their understanding of laboratory tests”.
The patient is at the centre of everything that we do. The patients want to know their laboratory results and understand what they mean.
The audience will hear how LTO have undertaken a research project and as a result it has undergone a major redevelopment to improve and simplify the architecture so patients can quickly find and easily understand the information they need. The “new” website was launched in March 2026 and announced in Scotland’s Chief Scientific Officer’s Newsletter in June 2026.
The website, which has now been going for over 20 years, would not exist without the support, including technical and financial support from the Association for Laboratory Medicine (LabMed), and financial support from Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) and the Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath) and, very importantly, all the volunteers on the LTO Board including lay members, editorial team and content reviewers. It remains totally non-commercial.

Dr Danielle B. Freedman
Dr Danielle B. Freedman is a Consultant Chemical Pathologist, Associate Physician in Endocrinology, and Deputy Medical Director of Bedfordshire Hospitals (cross site).Previous hospital Medical Director for 3 terms of office. She is the Lead CMO and SRO for ME5 Pathology Network.
Trained in medicine at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, University of London, Dr Freedman then completed further training in Clinical Biochemistry and Endocrinology at the RFHSM and the Middlesex Hospital, University of London.
Dr Freedman was elected Vice President of Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath) (2008 – 2011).Elected National member of RCPath Council ( 2005-2011). Chair of RCPath SAC for Clinical Biochemistry( 2005-2011). She then became a National member of the Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine (ACB) Council (2011 – 2015). She is currently a UK member of the (EFLM) Working Group on Post Analytical Phases (2018 – )Dr Freedman is a founder member of the Patient Focussed Laboratory Medicine (PFLM) Group along with GIRFT, NEQAS and WEQAS (2025 - present). She is currently the Chair of Lab Tests Online Board UK (2012 - present) a Peer reviewed, Non-Commercial, Patient Centred website.
Her main interests include clinical endocrinology, point of care testing and, importantly, the value of laboratory testing with regard to patient safety and patient outcome.
She has over 100 publications in peer review journals including Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA and Annals of Clinical Biochemistry and 10 book chapters.
Dr Freedman was nominated as one of the TOP 100 International Power List of Influential Laboratory Medicine Professionals (November 2015). In 2018, she was awarded the very prestigious award of Honorary Membership of the ACB (now Association for Laboratory Medicine) for International work in Laboratory Medicine.

Dr Charu Chopra
Chair, Scotland Regional Council; Immunology Representative
Charu is a Consultant Clinical Immunologist at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. She leads the SE Scotland regional clinical service for patients with Primary Immune Deficiencies and leads the Immunology diagnostic laboratory within NHS Lothian Laboratory Medicine.
Charu has an active interest in teaching medical postgraduates and undergraduates, both in medicine and in biomedical sciences programmes at the University of Edinburgh. She co-led the setting up of the Scottish higher medical specialist training programme in Immunology, and is the Training Programme Director (NES) for the programme. She is Associate Postgraduate Dean for Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity in Scotland Deanery, NES.
