RCPath Consulting

RCPath Consultancy provides impartial, clinically led support to NHS Trust pathology and diagnostic services facing clinical, operational and workforce challenges. Advice is led by senior Fellows of the Royal College of Pathologists and experienced advisers with current NHS service leadership experience, offering independent and authoritative input that Trust boards and executive teams can rely on.

Our services

We provide a range of consultancy services tailored to the needs of clients, offering advice on:

  • provision of pathology services – including objective measurement of end-to-end quality of the laboratory service.
  • pathology commissioning and tendering – in situations where it is useful to have an independent, authoritative view.
  • reconfiguration of pathology services – where changes across more than one Trust are impacting local providers and maintenance of the quality of service and cost-effectiveness is paramount.
  • option appraisal processes – when pathology plans are assessed and options are considered and prioritised.

Why work with us?

The consultancy approach is deliberately focused and efficient. Following an initial scoping phase to understand local context, constraints and strategic objectives, a small advisory team is assembled with the most relevant clinical and operational expertise. This team undertakes a targeted review of service delivery, governance arrangements, workforce models or operational processes, identifying risks, inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.

The outcome is a concise, evidence-based set of recommendations tailored to the Trust’s circumstances, capacity and financial position. Recommendations are grounded in College standards, sound clinical governance and patient safety principles, supporting Trusts in meeting regulatory, quality and performance expectations. Whether the priority is service resilience, workforce planning, quality improvement or digital enablement, advice is designed to be realistic, implementable and locally appropriate.
