Please note this training is for Medical Examiner Officers, not Medical Examiners. To avoid any possible disappointment please ensure you are booking onto the correct course. You must have completed all 26 core ELFH e-learning modules before attending the face-to-face training.

Medical Examiner Officers (MEO) will work closely with MEs and undertake tasks such as coordinating the completion of death certificates and referrals to the Coroner, and speaking to clinicians and bereaved families.

Cancellation Policy

Please note that an administrative charge of £20.00 will be made on all cancellations including changing of dates. Payments are not transferrable, to change date you will be required to cancel your place and rebook onto the new date. The total registration fee is forfeited if cancelled one working week before the event

A Medical Examiner system is being rolled out across England and Wales to improve the process of death certification, particularly for the bereaved. The Royal College of Pathologists is leading on the training of Medical Examiners (MEs) and has recently agreed to provide training for Medical Examiner Officers (MEOs) as well. These training days are open to anyone who has been appointed to, or is considering applying to, work as an MEO.

MEOs work closely with MEs and will undertake tasks such as coordinating the completion of death certificates and referrals to the Coroner, and speaking to clinicians and bereaved families. There is more information about the role of the MEO, including a model job description, here: https://www.rcpath.org/profession/medical-examiners/setting-up-a-medical-examiner-system.html

MEOs may come from a wide range of backgrounds. It is anticipated that many will be nurses, healthcare scientists or bereavement officers by background, although this list is not exhaustive.

This face-to-face virtual training day is the second part of basic MEO training. Delegates must have completed the 26 mandatory core e-learning modules before the date of the course. It is vital that you have completed this preparatory work to enable you to get the most out of the training day. The e-learning can be accessed here: https://www.e-lfh.org.uk/programmes/medical-examiner/ (Registration with e-Learning for Healthcare is required).
