Calling all Residents! Following some excellent sessions on medical liver disease in 2025, and based on feedback received from delegates, the UK Liver Pathology Group in conjunction with the Royal College of Pathologists are pleased to announce the continuation of our virtual liver pathology bitesize series. Given the variability in exposure to liver pathology during training across the UK, some of the cases discussed will include FRCPath style cases, but also cover entities which pathologists may come across regularly as part of their working practice. There are six webinars which take place during 2026, which this year will be focussing on lesional liver pathology, and will aim to return to medical liver disease in 2027.

The emergency department plays a vital role in the early recognition and management of patients with suspected infection, where timely diagnosis supports improved patient outcomes, appropriate antimicrobial prescribing, and efficient patient flow. This webinar will examine the latest evidence on the use of in vitro diagnostics (IVDs), including biomarkers, in the adult emergency department, bringing together experts in infectious disease, clinical microbiology, and emergency medicine.

Sepsis and severe infection remain major challenges in the intensive care setting, where timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment are essential to improving patient outcomes. This webinar will explore how in vitro diagnostics (IVDs) can support the management of sepsis in adult intensive care units (ICUs) through insights from experts in intensive care medicine and clinical microbiology. The session will review current evidence and findings from recent NIHR-funded research, including the ADAPT Sepsis Trial. It will also examine how diagnostic testing can be effectively integrated into clinical pathways, highlighting the role of biomarkers and microbiological investigations in supporting earlier diagnosis, antimicrobial stewardship, and informed patient management.

The successful implementation of in vitro diagnostics (IVDs) for infection management depends not only on the performance of the tests themselves, but also on how diagnostic information influences clinical decision-making and antimicrobial prescribing. This webinar will explore the practical challenges and opportunities associated with embedding IVDs into routine hospital care, examining the behavioural, organisational, and clinical factors that shape their adoption and impact. The session will also consider the implications of emerging national guidance.
