This online event will shine a spotlight on careers in forensic pathology. Our speakers are consultant Dr Matt Lyall and trainee Dr Theodore Estrin-Serlui. The session (to be held on Zoom Webinar) aims to give medical students and foundation doctors a comprehensive introduction to this fascinating pathology specialty. Our speakers will cover:

- What working in their specialty is like day to day
- The trainee programme
- The transition from trainee to consultant
- The contribution that forensic pathology makes to patients and healthcare.

Our speakers

Dr Theodore Estrin-Serlui
Dr Theodore Estrin-Serlui is a forensic histopathology registrar based in Edinburgh, having started his subspeciality training in August 2024. Prior to that he was a histopathology trainee in London for 4 years, and during this period he developed a great interest in autopsy and forensic pathology.
Dr Estrin-Serlui has published numerous papers related to autopsy pathology since starting his pathology training, with a special interest on the use of decomposed bodies as a marker of social isolation in society - bridging the fields of sociology, public health and autopsy pathology.
He is currently the trainee representative for forensic histopathology to the RCPath, and he is also involved in teaching undergraduate medical students at the University of Edinburgh.
Dr Matt Lyall
Dr Matt Lyall is a Consultant in Forensic Pathology at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and a Home Office registered Forensic Pathologist.
He has a broad experience of forensic pathology practise, comprising unexpected natural deaths, cases of suicide, accidents, and suspicious deaths, involving adults and children. He has experience of working as a forensic pathologist in England and Scotland.
He is the Educational Supervisor for two forensic pathology registrars in Liverpool and is a Senior Examiner for the RCPath in forensic pathology.
