Overview
The session will include and introduction on the basic clinical presentation and mechanisms of drug allergy before focusing on updates on penicillin allergy de-labelling and anaesthetic drug allergy. There has been a growth in interest in penicillin allergy de-labelling as most labels are in fact not correct, and there is associated harm by avoiding penicillin unnecessarily. There are, however, several challenges with de-labelling in both specialist and non-specialist settings. Anaesthetic drug allergy has also attracted recent interest since the publication of the 6th National Audit Project (NAP6) of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. NAP6 highlighted significant need for change in practice. The session will provide an overview in these areas and finish with a panel question and answer session.

Dr. Tomaz Garcez
Dr. Tomaz Garcez is a Consultant Immunologist at the Greater Manchester Immunology Service. He received his medical degree in 1997 from the University of Aberdeen, and later specialised in immunology and general internal medicine at North Bristol NHS Trust.
He has more than 20 years of clinical experience and has acted as a Principal Investigator for several clinical trials. His interests include perioperative hypersensitivity, fatal anaphylaxis, the treatment and outcomes of patients with hereditary angioedema and immunodeficiency. He has contributed to over 50 papers published in peer-reviewed journals on topics in immunology and allergy

Dr Louise Savic
Dr Louise Savic is a consultant anaesthetist with a clinical and research interest in drug allergy and perioperative anaphylaxis. She is currently a doctoral fellow with the NIHR, investigating drug allergy in surgical patients. Working closely with the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and Clinical Immunology Professional Network, she is leading a cross speciality working party for improving allergy care among surgical patients

Dr Amy Dodd
Amy Dodd is a consultant anaesthetist at North Bristol NHS Trust and has an interest in perioperative allergy and penicillin-allergy de-labelling. She is a member of the regional anaesthetic allergy team at North Bristol Trust and is the co-educational lead for the Perioperative Allergy Network. She was a member of the working Group responsible for the 2021 Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) anaphylaxis guidelines update and has publications on the treatment of anaphylaxis and perioperative anaphylaxis.
