Preventing colorectal cancer in inflammatory bowel disease.
The College is delighted to have approved this external event for CPD credits.

TOPICS COVERED
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is common, affecting around 1 in 100 people (0.5M) in the UK. People with IBD have a significantly increased risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). I will discuss our work studying the clonal evolution of precancers in the inflamed colon, specifically about field cancerisation, the replacement of the colonic epithelium by genetically-altered cancer-predisposed clone(s) without morphological change. I will discuss how detection of the cancerised field strongly predicts future cancer risk and provides a powerful biomarker to enable personalised approaches to cancer prevention.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Consultant histopathologists, gastrointestinal pathologists, gastroenterologists, colorectal surgeons, molecular pathologists, clinical scientists, oncologists, pathology trainees, biomedical scientists, and researchers with an interest in gastrointestinal pathology, colorectal cancer, genomics and cancer prevention.
SPEAKERS
Prof Trevor Graham FMedSci is Director of the Centre for Evolution and Cancer at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) in London UK. His interdisciplinary laboratory combines computational biology with molecular genomics to study cancer evolution. His interests span pre-cancer biology through to treatment optimisation for metastatic disease, with a particular interest in colorectal cancer.
