Counselling as well as screening blood tests will be offered to people visiting St. David's Shopping Centre in Cardiff

The Hereditary Anaemia Team at Cardiff and Vale Health Board will have multiple team members ( including doctors, nurses, genetic counsellors and phlebotomists) on site at St. David's Shopping centre in Cardiff. This event is being organised in collaboration with UK Thalassemia Society & Sickle Cell Society. people visiting St. David's will have a chance to speak to team members about the inherited red cell disorders (to raise awareness) and will also be offered the opportunity to get tested on site. The blood samples will be processed at University Hospital of Wales and results communicated to the people who get themselves tested. Any abnormal results will be referred for genetic counselling services

The aims of the event are to increase awareness in society about inherited haemoglobin disorders. By offering screening tests, we hope to be able to help people who were previously unaware of their situation to make informed reproductive choices should they be detected as carriers of a haemoglobin anomaly
