Running as part of National Pathology Week (NPW) 2026, the event celebrates the NPW 2026 theme, 'Welcome to the Lab' by inviting anyone with an interest in working in medicine or science to join our expert speakers to find out what it’s like to work in forensic pathology.

This free webinar explores careers in forensic pathology and is part of our National Pathology Week (NPW) 2026 webinar series.

Forensics is one of 17 specialties in pathology, the study of disease. Pathologists are medically or scientifically qualified and work in hospitals and laboratories with other doctors and healthcare professionals to prevent, diagnose and treat disease.

Chaired by Dame Suzy Lishman, this webinar features two speakers: Professor of Forensic Pathology, Professor Ralph Bouhaidar & Forensic Pathology Registrar, Dr Theo Estrin-Serlui.

The speakers will explain what forensic pathology is and why it is important to healthcare. They’ll also share their personal journeys into the specialty including their education and training, as well as their day-to-day work including any research they do.

Meet the speakers

Chair: Dame Suzy Lishman

Dame Suzy Lishman DBE is a histopathologist and medical examiner in Peterborough. A former President of the Royal College of Pathologists and Association of Clinical Pathologists, Suzy has championed public engagement for many years and introduced National Pathology Week in 2008 and International Pathology Day in 2014. Her most popular event, the Living Autopsy, has been viewed by thousands in person and by over 3.5 million people online. 

Speakers: Professor of Forensic Pathology, Professor Ralph Bouhaidar & Forensic Pathology Registrar, Dr Theo Estrin-Serlui.

Dr Theo Estrin-Serlui is a forensic histopathology registrar based in Edinburgh, having started his subspeciality training in August 2024.  Prior to that Theo was a histopathology trainee in London for four years, and during this period he developed a great interest in autopsy and forensic pathology. 

Theo has published numerous papers related to autopsy pathology since starting his pathology training, with a special interest on the use of decomposed bodies as a marker of social isolation in society - bridging the fields of sociology, public health and autopsy pathology.  
He is currently the trainee representative for forensic histopathology to the RCPath, and is involved in teaching undergraduate medical students at the University of Edinburgh.
