This webinar will examine recent developments in the diagnosis and management of Gram‑negative bloodstream infections, with a focus on the laboratory and clinical impact of rapid diagnostic technologies. Topics will include the epidemiology and burden of disease, real‑world implementation of rapid genotypic and antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and integration into laboratory workflows, antimicrobial stewardship, and patient pathways.

The speaker will be Dr Lim Jones, Consultant Medical Microbiologist at Public Health Wales. The event will be chaired by Dr Natasha Ratnaraja, a consultant in infection at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire and Chair of RCPath's Medical Microbiology and Medical Virology Specialty Advisory Committee. A Q&A will follow Dr Jones' talk.

Dr Lim Jones

Dr Lim Jones is a Consultant Medical Microbiologist at Public Health Wales with a interests in antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, microbiology diagnostics and standardisation. He is Clinical Lead for Infection Services at PHW Cardiff and the Specialist Antimicrobial Chemotherapy Unit, Co‑Chair of the Wales Microbiology Methods Development and Standardisation Group, and a member of the BSAC Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Standing Committee. He represents PHW on the UK SMI Bacteriology Working Group and contributes to national diagnostic and laboratory standards.

Dr Natasha Ratnaraja

Dr Ratnaraja is a consultant in infection at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire. She is the Chair for RCPath's Medical Microbiology and Medical Virology Specialty Advisory Committee. She has an interest in laboratory diagnostics and standards and the development of infection services. Dr Ratnaraja authored the BIA/RCPath "Best practice standards for the delivery of NHS infection services in the United Kingdom."
