Securing Observership posts
International
The College works with partners in the UK and internationally to raise awareness about the vital role played by pathology and laboratory medicine services in addressing global health issues and improving the health outcomes of people and communities around the world.
From the homepage of the international regions of the College website you can learn more about our global health capacity building projects and how we support the training and professional development of international medical graduates.
Observerships
Observerships provide international medical graduates who have been practising abroad with the opportunity to gain experience of clinical practice in the NHS in the UK and to observe the role of doctors and other professionals within the healthcare system. The College does not provide direct support for securing observership posts, however there are numerous resources that international medical graduates might find helpful in obtaining an observership post in the UK.

Clinical observership programmes
A number of NHS hospitals and Trusts organise clinical observership programmes which provide unpaid opportunities for individuals to apply for time-limited observerships in the UK. Many of these schemes require applicants to meet defined criteria and may charge a fee for the experience. Such opportunities can be found by searching for them using a reliable search engine, but the following are provided as examples. The College has no role in recommending such programmes and all enquiries should be directed to the relevant hospital or NHS Trust.
